Times, dates, locations, contact info, general logistical stuff
This page will be used to coordinate and disseminate information about the wedding plans. RSVP with me ASAP if you intend to go.
What we have so far:
Itinerary
Arrival and departure dates to/from Vietnam are firm due to airline tickets and wedding day is fixed. Other travel days may vary. All dates are local time in Vietnam which is 15 hours ahead of PST.
July 31st - Tracy and Trinity arrive in Vietnam
August 3rd-5th - Travel to Vung Tau for sightseeing and take wedding pictures and return to Sai Gon
August 5th - All family and friends arrive in Vietnam having departed the US on Aug 4th US time.
August 7th - Rest, sightseeing, prepare for wedding day
August 8th - Wedding day
August 9th - Sightseeing in Sai Gon: Reunification Palace, Ben Thanh Market, sample Vietnamese foods, shopping
August 10th - Party with whole family, eating, rest. Those who do not want to stay for the whole two weeks and only want to visit for the wedding and minimal sightseeing should plan to depart on this day.
August 11th - Fly to Hue for sightseeing. We will be traveling with Trinity's family.
August 13th - Take van to Da Nang for sightseeing
August 15th - Fly back to Sai Gon
August 16th - Rest/pack
August 17th - Everyone flies back to the US
Expenses
According to Orbitz on Jan 7....
From Indianapolis to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) Leaving Indianapolis on Aug 4 and returning on Aug 17 with a stop in Chicago and a stop in Seoul currently costs $1448.
From Austin to Ho Chi Minh City with stops in Los Angeles and Seoul currently costs $1328.
From Dayton to Ho Chi Minh City with stops in Chicago and Seoul currently costs $1448
In Sai Gon you will be staying at Tan Son Nhat airport hotel. This is a "3 star hotel" and costs $25-30 per night. The same price for the other hotels in Hue and Da Nang. So figure $300 for lodging. Food in Vietnam is cheap. Trinity and I will cover all of the food for everyone for the whole trip.
The flight to Da Nang and return from Hue is around $120 total.

Plus a few hundred more for miscellaneous expenses and whatever souvenirs you want to buy. Buy your tickets ASAP and send me your flight information. If you will be staying less time obviously the expense will be less. Also note that few places in Vietnam accept credit cards. Fancy restaurants in big cities do but not much else. So bring cash. I would suggest $500 in cash at a minimum. If you do run out don't worry, we won't let anyone get stuck anywhere and will make whatever arrangements necessary.

Weather in Vietnam
Vietnam has two season: HOT and rainy. Even the rainy season is warm with temps in the upper 80's. August is summer in the US but in Vietnam it is the rainy season. Rainy season is from August through November. I specifically chose August because I would rather take my chances with the rain than deal with the heat of the HOT season. Bring clothes for warm weather plus whatever you want to wear to the wedding. The wedding will be air conditioned but not much else will be.
Wedding Location
The wedding will be held at White Palace in Phu Nuan district of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Wedding attire
Men will wear suits and women will wear dresses at the wedding.
Wedding gifts
Please don't bring gifts to Vietnam as we will just have to pay to have them shipped (or pay overweight/size luggage fees at the airport). If you wish to get us a gift you can mail it to:

Vietnamese wedding ceremony
We will be having a Vietnamese wedding ceremony which is different from an American wedding ceremony. The general idea is that we will have a ceremony at her house with the immediate family followed by dinner with all of the guests at a nice restaurant.
Arriving in Vietnam
Everyone will be flying into Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City/Sai Gon.
When you arrive go through immigration, customs, etc and follow everyone out to the public area. There will be a lot of people there waiting for their relatives. Trinity and I will be there looking for you. If you don't see us right away find a spot nearby the exit and wait and we will find you. If your flight is delayed or you miss a connection or whatever be sure to call us or we will be searching the airport for you until we hear from you.

Speaking of phones, there will be phone at Trinity's house which everyone can use to make free phone calls (it doesn't even cost us anything) back to the US to take care of any business or talk to anyone you want for as long as you want.
And if you have a mobile phone please bring it with you to Vietnam. We will buy a cheap pre-paid SIM card and put it in the phone so you can use it in case of emergency or if we get separated.
